From Cromwell we drove back to Queenstown on Kawarau Gorge
Road which runs alongside the Kawarau River. This route is a must for visitors
as they have the world renowned ‘Bungy Jump’ centre
at the Old Kawarau Bridge – I am not the adventurous type of person so I did
not even want to walk across the bridge let alone do the bungy – they have to
PAY me and quite a lot before I would do it.
They also have two small power stations called The RoaringMeg Hydro Scheme in the
gorge, generating around 30 GWh per year. The picture above is the discharge from
the lower station.
